Large-format printing is an effective way to communicate your message across banners, posters, displays and commercial graphics. Whether you are promoting a business, launching an event or branding a development project, the right printed materials can make a strong visual impact.

MCR Signs provides printing and large-format solutions for businesses across Manchester and Greater Manchester.

What Is Large Format Printing?

Large-format printing is used to produce graphics and printed materials that are larger than standard office printing. These products can be used indoors or outdoors depending on the material and application.

Typical products include:

• PVC banners
• Posters
• Promotional graphics
• Display panels
• Event graphics
• Construction boards
• Exhibition displays

Printing for Business and Promotion

Businesses use large-format printing for a variety of purposes, including:

• Advertising campaigns
• New business launches
• Promotional events
• Retail displays
• Office branding
• Temporary site information
• Exhibition presentations

A successful printed display should combine clear messaging, strong branding and suitable artwork.

Quality Artwork and Material Selection

The final result depends on more than the design. Material choice, print size, viewing distance, finishing and installation requirements should all be considered before production.

MCR Signs can help you prepare artwork and select an appropriate printing solution based on your project specifications.

Construction Hoardings: More Than Just a Site Boundary

Construction sites are often the first thing people see when a new development is taking shape. With the right signage, those temporary boundaries can become a valuable opportunity to promote the project, communicate information and create a professional presence.

For developers, contractors and construction companies across Manchester, professionally designed hoarding graphics can turn an otherwise plain site boundary into a strong visual statement.

1. Turn Empty Space Into Advertising

Construction hoardings can cover a large area, often for months or even years. Instead of leaving that space blank, branded graphics can communicate the identity and vision of the development.

Project names, logos, development visuals, key messages and contact information can all be incorporated into a professionally designed hoarding scheme.

A well-designed hoarding can help people understand what is being developed while creating visibility for the project throughout the construction period.

2. Create a Professional First Impression

A construction site doesn't have to look unfinished from the outside.

Clean, professionally produced hoarding graphics can create a more organised and polished appearance while helping establish the project's identity before the development is complete.

For property developers, this can be particularly useful when promoting residential, commercial or mixed-use developments.

3. Promote the Development Before Completion

Hoardings can also become part of your marketing strategy.

Depending on the project, graphics can feature:

• Development branding
• Artist impressions
• Property visuals
• Project information
• Key selling points
• Website addresses
• QR codes
• Contact details
• Marketing messages

This allows the development to start generating awareness while construction is still underway.

4. Make Important Information Easy to See

Not every part of construction signage needs to be promotional.

Hoardings and site boards can also provide important information such as:

• Site entrances and exits
• Contractor information
• Development details
• Contact information
• Directional information
• Health and safety notices
• Public information

Clear typography and well-planned layouts make this information easier for visitors, contractors and members of the public to understand.

5. Build a Consistent Project Identity

Large developments often involve multiple contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.

A consistent signage system helps bring the project together visually.

The same colours, typography, logos and messaging can be carried across hoardings, entrance signs, developer boards, directional signage and other site graphics.

This creates a recognisable identity throughout the development.

What Makes Good Hoarding Graphics?

Effective hoarding signage needs to balance visibility, information and design.

Large graphics should be easy to understand from a distance, while important information should remain readable at pedestrian level.

The artwork should also be prepared specifically for the dimensions and environment of the site rather than simply enlarging a standard marketing design.

From Artwork to Installation

At MCR Signs, we can support construction and property projects from artwork preparation and large-format printing through to production, delivery and installation.

Whether you need a single developer board or complete hoarding graphics for a major development, we can create signage around your project requirements.

Five Signage Ideas to Make Your Manchester Shopfront Stand Out

Your shopfront is often the first thing a potential customer sees. Before they walk through the door, your signage has already communicated something about your business — what you do, who you are and the quality of experience customers can expect.

In a busy Manchester high street or commercial area, simply having a sign isn't always enough. Effective shopfront signage needs to be clear, visible and consistent with your brand. Here are five signage ideas that can help your business create a stronger presence.

1. Make an Impact with a Professional Fascia Sign

A fascia sign is one of the most effective ways to establish your business identity at street level. It gives customers an immediate indication of your business and provides a prominent area for your name, logo and branding.

A well-designed fascia can be produced using a range of materials and finishes, including aluminium composite panels, acrylic, trays, vinyl graphics and other sign-making materials. The right choice depends on your building, brand, budget and the level of visibility you need.

For businesses located on busy roads or high streets, keeping the name and key message clear from a distance is particularly important. A strong fascia should be easy to read without becoming overcrowded.

2. Add Depth with 3D Built-Up Lettering

Flat printed signage isn't the only option. 3D and built-up lettering can give a shopfront a more distinctive and premium appearance.

Individual letters can be manufactured in materials such as acrylic, aluminium, stainless steel or other suitable finishes. They can be mounted directly onto a fascia or building façade to create depth and shadow.

For restaurants, salons, professional offices, retailers and other businesses, built-up lettering can be particularly effective when you want your premises to have a strong visual identity.

You can also combine different finishes, colours and materials to create a design that reflects your brand.

3. Use Illumination to Get Noticed After Dark

Your business doesn't disappear when the sun goes down — your signage shouldn't either.

Illuminated signage can help your business remain visible during evenings and darker winter months. Options include illuminated fascia signs, LED lightboxes, illuminated built-up letters and halo-lit lettering.

The type of illumination you choose should complement your brand rather than overpower it. A carefully designed illuminated sign can provide strong visibility while giving your premises a professional appearance.

This can be particularly valuable for restaurants, takeaways, bars, convenience stores, hotels, salons and businesses that operate into the evening.

4. Turn Your Windows into Advertising Space

Your shop windows are valuable branding space that is often overlooked.

Window graphics and vinyl can be used to display your logo, opening hours, promotions, services or other important information without requiring additional structural signage.

Depending on your requirements, options can include:

• Promotional window graphics

• Frosted vinyl

• Privacy film

• One-way vision graphics

• Cut vinyl lettering

• Full-window printed graphics

The key is to avoid covering the entire window unnecessarily. Good window graphics should communicate your message while still allowing the space to look clean and inviting.

5. Make the Whole Shopfront Work Together

The best shopfronts don't rely on one sign. They create a consistent visual system.

Your fascia, 3D lettering, windows, entrance, projecting signs and other external elements should work together rather than looking like separate additions.

Think about what a customer sees from different distances:

From the road:
Can they recognise your business?

From across the street:
Can they read your name?

Standing outside:
Can they understand what you offer?

At the entrance:
Does the branding continue consistently?

A coordinated signage package can make a significant difference to how professional and recognisable your premises appear.
